Black Sea University Network

BSUF took the initiative to set up a network of Black Sea universities, drawing inspiration from its exchanges with the Baltic Sea University (Uppsala) and the University of the Mediterranean Sea (Rome).

As a result of a Constitutive Conference organized in collaboration with Ovidus University of Constantza (whose rector, Professor Adrian Bavaru, became the first president of the network), the Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN) was created. At present, BSUN numbers more than 100 universities. The current president, Professor Suha Sevuk (Ankara), who organized a BSUN conference in Instanbul (2000) is preparing the next conference to be held in Baku (2002).

Many partners in the BSUF activities are members of this network.

The most recent meeting of the BSUN Council (Rhodos, 2001) gave a new impetus to the activities of the network, among which the international studies and conflict prevention hold a special place.

BSUF also actively takes part in other networks initiated in the region, for instance:

  • European Center for Peace and Development (Belgrade, Yugoslavia)
  • Croatian Diplomatic Academy from Zagreb
  • Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies (Malta)
  • International Center of Black Sea Studies (Athens, Greece)
